Every few weeks, a new viral engagement video comes out. If you have ever gone to YouTube to watch one, you know that the bar on the right side of your screen quickly fills up with other engagement videos. Suddenly it is the end of the day, your desk is covered in mascara and tear-stained tissues, and it hits you: You have fallen down the engagement video rabbit hole.
After watching the newest viral video (which wasn’t even about a real-life engagement), I found myself in just such a situation. To ease your searching and save you several-dozen hours, I have compiled a cry-worthy list of the best engagement videos from YouTube.
1) Extra gum commercial
Girls dream of their engagement. They craft the perfect scene in their head. How it is going to happen, where they will be, what their significant other will say. Then, they see a video like this commercial and every dream they have is shattered.
The guy in this video saves the wrappers from every stick of gum his girlfriend has ever given him, draws on them and turns them into an art exhibit where he proposed to his girlfriend. Then, all the tears flow. Mostly from me.
How will any engagement ever compare to this?

2) Franti proposal
Singer Michael Franti wrote a song for his future wedding years before getting engaged. He then used the video as the soundtrack for his engagement video, which he surprised his girlfriend with. I can’t.
3) Home Depot proposal
A few years ago, flash mob proposals were all the rage, and with good reason. Dustin thought he was going to Home Depot to help a friend pick out lighting, when boom, a flash mob broke out in front of him dancing to “Somebody Loves You” by Betty Who. It is a magical video, and kudos to Spencer for involving friends and family in the special moment.
4) Sara Bareillis’s “I Choose You”
Sara Bareillis set out to make a different kind of video for her song, “I Choose You.” She asked her Twitter and Facebook followers if any of them were planning on getting engaged soon, and if so, she wanted to help. She selected two couples and used her song as the soundtrack to their proposal.
5) Justin and Emily: The Proposal
The engagement video to end all engagement videos. At 27 minutes long, this one is a commitment, but so is marriage, right? Really, if you have not seen this video of Justin Baldoni proposing to Emily Foxler, you should carve out some time today and make it a priority.
The use of the “Suite from Forrest Gump” puts this over the top as the best engagement video of all time.
I hope you enjoyed this trip down engagement lane. Now on to those wedding videos…
