Is Apple planning on removing the headphone jack from the MacBook, too?

Now that Apple's taken the first step towards killing the headphone jack by removing it from the iPhone, is the MacBook Pro next?

When the news dropped that Apple would be abandoning the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack for its own proprietary Lightning headphone the writing was on the wall for Mac users. You must prepare yourself for the day they come for your headphone jack as well. That day may be fast approaching if a new survey Apple is reportedly sending to customers is any indication.

Twitter user Blake A. shared a screenshot from a new survey from Apple asking users if they ever used the headphone jack on their Retina Macbook Pros.

The company is expected to announce their new MacBook Pro refreshes this coming October. Could this survey be a harbinger of things to come? Given the popularity of the MacBook with music producers and other working professionals, a move like this change could be a more controversial move than simply changing the jack on your phone.

There’s a difference between people using the ear pods that come with their phone and forcing professionals to carry a new dongle in their bag to use their expensive headphones with their pro-grade computer.

Of course, if Apple truly sees the future in wireless sound that might not matter. We’ll have to wait until October to see if this is just a harmless question or a sign of things to come.
