Pusheen Olympics
Pusheen cat GIFs medal in Tumblring.

Here at the Daily Dot, we swap GIF images with each other every morning. Now we’re looping you in. In the Morning GIF, we feature a popular—or just plain cool—GIF we found on Reddit, Canvas, or elsewhere on the Internet.

While it’s likely the 776 B.C. Olympics were the games most immortalized on amphorae, our modern age is no less self-referential. These will surely the most GIF’d Olympics in history.

But who will take the gold in Olympic GIFs, in a world where NBC has one finger on the pulse of sports and one on the YouTube takedown button, and the act of making a GIF feels like a cross between graffiti and the 100-yard dash?

At the forefront, as always, is Pusheen, possibly the Internet’s foremost cat GIF artiste. It’s early days yet, but on the strength of this Olympic debut it’s safe to predict this challenger will be on the podium come Aug. 12. The 69,880 notes from the Tumblr judges would indicate they tend to agree.
