Social news site Reddit has been around for five years and counting and records over a billion page views a month. But it seems celebrities have only just realized how to use the site for self-promotion.
Anthony Bourdain, host of the Travel Channel’s No Reservations, is the latest celebrity to take on the Reddit community with an IAmA (Reddit’s version of a question and answer session).
Two weeks ago, redditors voted for their top ten questions. This morning, the Travel Channel posted Bourdain’s video response.
The video was originally scheduled for release last Wednesday. No reasons were officially given for the delay, but, as it happens, the new season of No Reservations premiers tonight at 9 P.M. on the Travel Channel.
Other celebrities who have taken part in question and answer sessions on the site include Ken Jennings, the Jeopardy champ, the Discovery Channel’s Mike Rowe, and film critic Roger Ebert.
The most revealing exchange came from this question by redditor drinkalone:: “Who is Anthony really? You mock the Food Network and loath the culture that it has created around food, yet you appear as special guest Judge on multiple Top Chefs. You despise ‘Foodies,’ yet you are one of the main inspirations for a new generation of ‘Foodies.’”
Redditors weren’t afraid to upvote the question. And Bourdain, in turn, wasn’t afraid to answer it. To see the revealing exchange, skip ahead in the below video to about 17:30.
Finally, we were going to provide a time-synced list of questions and answers.
But, as is often the case, someone on Reddit already did that for us.
