At the risk of killing any credibility I have, both Ace Ventura films are great fun. They’re completely ridiculous and so very ‘90s, yet they play to Jim Carrey’s rubber-faced strengths brilliantly.
Ventura’s memorable mannerisms have been captured tremendously in “Ace Ventura Saves A Guinea Pig,” a YouTube video that’s become popular on Reddit over the last few hours.
In the clip, Ventura visits the barbershop to have his quiff maintained before stomping out in a over-the-top way. As is characteristic for Ventura, he makes the simple process of getting into his truck as elongated as he can, before heading into a Petco to carry out the titular deed.
Alex Farnham, a filmmaker and LA Film School grad, created and starred in the video, one of hundreds he’s made. The popular YouTuber has received more than 32 million views on his channel. Even Katy Perry and Justin Bieber have tweeted or liked his parody videos.
Redditors largely praised Farnham’s efforts to rescue a guinea pig.
“This was a spot on performance,” wrote D2LBlast.
Another redditor, Spo8, praised Farnham’s acting, but not the video’s script: “He has Ace down pat. They just need to work some actual jokes in and it’ll be golden.”
brittersdee, meanwhile, provided a little background information: “This guy is somewhat of a local celebrity in Hawaii. His videos are hilarious, but you kinda have to be a local to understand the humor.”
