In 1999, Sisqo released the most 1999 video ever for “Thong Song,” a song about thongs, dump truck butts, and summer. It was an anthem for a dawning new millennium. “Thong Song” could not possibly endure into 2017, right?
Well, what about an EDM version?
Yes, Sisqo has endured, and along with Norwegian production trio JCY, has remade “Thong Song.” Sisqo told BuzzFeed: “I’ve been asked so many times over the years to make a new version of ‘Thong Song’ and I have declined every time until I heard the new version that JCY did. I thought it was dope and figured maybe it was time to put some new rims on the Bugatti.”
The new video has that generic 2017 pop music video sheen, and the song is not very good, but commenters have pointed out a bigger offense: a lack of butts. Said one: “The lyrics have no correlation to the females in the video, I don’t see any dumps like a truck or thighs like what. I feel betrayed.”
And another: “I didn’t see one phat ass in this whole video. Sisqo should be embarrassed.”
And another: “Butts are way too small.”
