On Tuesday, “high-quality person” Donald Trump Jr. released a chain of emails via Twitter after the New York Times informed him that they had obtained them and were going to publish them. The emails, of course, showed that Don Junior agreed to a meeting last summer with a Russian lawyer, who promised hot dirt on his father’s opponent, Hillary Clinton. “If it’s what you say I love it,” he wrote in one of the emails.

It was a field day for the media; they couldn’t get enough of this story. But not every reporter was entirely happy with the Trump email dump. Jared Yates Sexton, a freelance journalist, started reporting on this story a whole year ago. His despondent tweets in response to how Don Junior released vital information to his story, unceremoniously on Twitter, went viral:

Yes, a lot of people felt genuinely bad for this reporter. Any reporter who willingly embarks on a deep investigation related to the Trump family deserves some sort of prize. But the phrase “I…worked on this story for a year…and…he just…he tweeted it out” was made to become a meme. It’s applicable to so many situations! On Wednesday, it took off. And people are using it primarily as a way to call out someone else’s most embarrassing tweets.

We don’t know how long this meme will last, but right now, we love it.
