The clock is ticking for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
Assange remains in the UK awaiting the Supreme Court’s verdict in his appeal against the Swedish government’s request to extradite him to face allegations of sexual misconduct. While charges have not been laid, the Swedes have declined Assange’s offers to be questioned by video link or in person in the UK, and have been pursuing the extradition for 463 days so far.
It is widely expected that if the extradition goes through, he will then be extradited onward from Sweden to the US to face espionage charges.
On Tuesday evening, a rumor hit Twitter that a ruling, generally expected anywhere between March 4 and March 16, was coming down soon. This, naturally, threw both supporters and opponents into a frenzy—one that’s been over a year in the making.
