What’s the tweet that made Disney decide not to buy Twitter?

In a recent New York Times profile, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that Disney considered buying Twitter in 2017. Iger ultimately decided against it because the “nastiness” on the platform is “extraordinary.”

“The troubles were greater than I wanted to take on, greater than I thought it was responsible for us to take on,” Iger said in the profile. “There were Disney brand issues, the whole impact of technology on society.”

Iger is currently promoting his new memoir The Ride of a Lifetime, which chronicles his nearly 15-year tenure as CEO of The Walt Disney Company. Iger details the company’s acquisition of Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones.

We all know that Twitter didn’t make the cut, but what we didn’t know was that Iger even considered buying it in the first place.

“I like looking at my Twitter newsfeed because I want to follow 15, 20 different subjects,” he said. “Then you turn and look at your notifications and you’re immediately saying, why am I doing this? Why do I endure this pain? Like a lot of these platforms, they have the ability to do a lot of good in our world. They also have an ability to do a lot of bad. I didn’t want to take that on.”

Twitter users then began dredging up the nastiest tweets they could find from the platform’s history.

One Twitter user blamed the Shane Dawson-cat controversy when Dawson joked about ejaculating on his cat.

“i didnt fuck my cat. i didnt cum on my cat. i didnt put my dick anywhere near my cat. Ive never done anything weird with my cats. I promised myself i wasnt going to make apology videos after last years thing so im just trying to be as short and honest with this as possible,” Dawson tweeted at the time.
