Almost 20 years after making The Fifth Element, director Luc Besson is working on another sci-fi epic. Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, based on the iconic French comic Valérian and Laureline, is currently filming in France, and Luc Besson’s set photos look very cool.
Besson’s films always boast a distinctive visual style, and Valerian gives him plenty to work with. The original comic began in the 1960s and has a colorful space-opera aesthetic, widely regarded as having influenced Star Wars back in the day.
We’re already very intrigued by this movie, which starring Cara Delevingne and Dane DeHaan in the lead roles of Laureline and Valerian.
For the past few weeks, Besson has been sharing Valerian photos on his Facebook page, including glimpses of some awesome costumes (we’re particularly fond of Clive Owen’s gold chestpiece thing), spaceships, aliens, and some kind of humanoid robot.
This movie is going to be a cosplay goldmine.
