In the commentary on the Blu-Ray edition of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, author J.K. Rowling declares that Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald had a “love relationship” that was “incredibly intense” and had a “sexual dimension,” according to Radio Times. And of course, the new revelations are bringing in the memes.
Rowling revealed that Dumbledore was gay in 2007. Twelve years after the last Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, came out, Rowling is still dropping crumbs about the personal lives of the series’ characters—on Twitter, on the Pottermore website, and in new books. But Rowling’s latest comments have fans rolling their eyes.

Of course, some took the opportunity to make a political point about Rowling’s use of marginalized identities in her work. She has faced criticism for declaring some characters to be gay, but refusing to really represent that in her works.
“I’m lowkey impressed with JK Rowling’s ability to retroactively write-in politically right on messages into her universe long after those struggles have been won, despite creating the fictional universe at exactly the point that those messages might have been useful,” wrote @huwlemmey.
