Bill Nye uses science to debunk anti-abortion arguments

‘When it comes to women’s rights, with respect to their reproduction, I think you should leave it to women.’

Bill Nye has been employing scientific reasoning to argue against climate change deniers for years, but now he’s using it to fight another battle.

The discussion on abortion and women’s reproductive rights has gained national attention in the aftermath of multiple undercover Planned Parenthood videos (which many say have been manipulated), as well as last week’s vote to defund Planned Parenthood. But for Nye, the concept is rather simple: When it comes to women’s reproductive rights, you should leave it to women.

“You cannot help but notice—and I’m not the first guy to notice—you have a lot of men of European descent passing these extraordinary laws based on ignorance,” Nye explained.

He may be on the outside, but he feels for women—plus, there’s so many other things we could be focusing on instead of attacking women’s reproductive rights.

A clearly frustrated Nye knows that many people against abortion believe that life begins at conception based on their “interpretation of a book written 5,000 years ago,” but it’s inconsistent with nature and science. He doesn’t feel anyone should be able to tell a woman what to do with her own body just because they don’t like it—and we have to respect the facts.

“It’s just a reflection of a deep scientific lack of understanding and you literally apparently don’t know what you’re talking about.”

And while he may not convince anyone with his arguments, he asks those against abortion to look at the facts.
