A Twitter user has shared an excerpt of what could be one of the creepiest Amazon product reviews you’ll ever read.

Author Dahlia Adler says she came across the review while searching for a replacement baby monitor this week.

“This review is the creepiest horror story I have ever read,” Adler said.

The reviewer claims that the device, an APEMAN Baby Monitor WiFi Camera, was hacked just months after purchasing it.

“We loved and used this camera for a couple months and it does perform very well,” the review begins. “However my wife, while breastfeeding our baby, just watched the camera led start flashing and another woman’s voice asked ‘wheres that baby?’ IN THE PITCH BLACK DARK OF NIGHT AT 4 AM!”

The Amazon user goes on to urge others not to purchase the device, which was described as “easily hacked.”

“The thing that scares us the most is that someone has been watching and listening and possibly even talking to our baby, and we would never have found out if she hadn’t seen and heard it,” the reviewer adds.

The tweet showcasing the review has since racked up over 13,000 shares. And while the claims haven’t been verified, the story sounds identical to countless others involving internet-connected cameras.

Everything from Ring doorbell cameras to normal webcams have been getting hacked for years.

In just one example of many, a woman woke up to a man screaming at her 10-month old baby through their baby monitor all the way back in 2014.

Those interested in purchasing internet-connected baby monitors are urged to research the security of devices before making a purchase. Choosing a device that allows you to set a strong, unique password and enable two-factor authentication is important as well.
