Does Ryan Murphy ever run out of ideas? Apparently not. His next project is a One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest prequel.

According to Deadline, Murphy and longtime collaborator Sarah Paulson are set to bring the series Ratched to Netflix. It will be the “origin story” of Nurse Ratched, the tyrannical nurse played by Louise Fletcher in the 1975 movie about Salem State Hospital, which stars Jack Nicholson and Danny DeVito.

Paulson will play a younger version of Ratched, and the series will explore her life starting in 1947, before she became head nurse at the psychiatric facility and sentenced people to tortuous electroshock therapy. This totally sounds like it could have been a scrapped season of American Horror Story.

Ratched has already scored a two-season deal and this marks Murphy’s first original series for Netflix. Michael Douglas will executive produce. Production is set to begin in 2018.
