Holy moly, were the potheads on Reddit excited last night after the election’s reefer results came in.
Responding to the news that both Colorado and Washington voted to legalize the possession of up to one full ounce of weed, the 341,000-strong “forest of Ents” on r/Reddit sprung into action, engaging in a rousing, surely smoke-filled celebration that lasted until the bleary-eyed break of morning.
Redditors sent congratulatory brofists to new legals from as far as the Netherlands and disclosed their newest “smoke spots.” They hailed Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning a “genius” for his shrewd decision to acquire 21 Colorado Papa John’s Pizza franchises in the days leading up to the election.
One redditor, a Washingtonian who goes by roachwarren, articulated his feelings for his home state by posting a photo of Barack Obama inhaling a cigarette.
Perhaps the greatest contribution to the collective r/trees cypher was redditor kromdorr’s decision to change two of the United States flag’s stars into pot leaves. That post got upvoted more than 1,400 times and landed in the third highest spot on r/trees’ front page (below the brofist and Peyton Manning tweet).
Contributions are still coming in, too, so make sure to keep an eye out. As was to be expected, more than a few Ents woke up a little burnt out this morning.
That said, there was plenty of legitimate information circulating throughout the thread on the topic of proper maintenance of marijuana’s newfound legality.
“Please do not abuse this and show it off,” redditor McFistykins wrote in a self.trees post. “Keep it normal. Show the rest of the world that it is not a big deal. Toke on responsibly, and respectfully my friends.”
Ents in Washington and Colorado, take notice. McFistykins maintains that his message goes for each and every one of you. Including this man, the grandfather of a redditor’s friend in Washington who sat at his counter, bag of pot in hand, while he waited for the final results to come in.
