This week we learned that (most!) people are sad about Penn State legend Joe Paterno’s passing; that there’s an endless amount of snark to go around for President Obama’s State of the Union address; that Pat Sajak was totally hammered in the early 1980s; and that the Australian Open is a good source of animated GIFs.
Joe Paterno dies
On Sunday, former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno passed away at the age of 85. Many Tumblrs users celebrated his life with fan made art and wrote letters about the college football legend but some users took to Tumblr to express that they aren’t sad about JoePa’s passing.

State of the Union
President Obama addressed the nation on Tuesday with his annual State of the Union. There were so many retorts, Tumblr needs to start its own cable network so it can air an official rebuttal. Until that happens, here it is in word form. Teenage Pundit poked fun at Obama’s lame spilled milk line, a GIF of Obama and Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords hugging is making the rounds. The Guardian posted a response from the television show The West Wing’s fictional president, Jed Bartlet.

Pat Sajak drunkenly hosted Wheel of Fortune
Wheel of Fortune host and American legend Pat Sajak revealed this week that he used to knock back a few margaritas before taping the game show in the 1980s. Everyone on Tumblr found that to be pretty awesome. I love this “fan art” (below) that Traffic Judge posted to his Tumblr. Another Tumblr user dug up an old photo of Vanna White and added in a Budweiser bottle. That picture couldn’t get any more American if it tried.

Week Two of the Australian Open
As the tennis grand slam comes to a close, Tumblrons and Tumblrettes are sending it off in the best way: GIFs and memes! Look at this GIF of cat-like reflex from a ball boy! Team Masha illustrated Maria Sharapova’s response to a criticism from Agnieszka Radwanska of her on-court grunting by asking, “Isn’t she back in Poland already?” SO SASSY. LOVES IT.
