The platform’s try-everything plan seems to be working.

If you scroll through Netflix it can be hard to find titles that aren’t branded with its red logo. The company has funneled a lot of money into its original content, and in 2018 especially, it flooded its market, releasing roughly 1,500 hours of original programming by some estimates.

A new study confirms that Netflix’s library has now started to include more originals than licensed or acquired titles. According to TV research firm Ampere Analysis, Netflix originals released in 2018 made up 51 percent of the platform’s new content, as opposed to December 2016, when it was just 25 percent. In 2018, originals made up 11 percent of the total platform; in 2016, it made up 4 percent.

Of course, not all Netflix’s original films and series are good and the sheer volume means some titles might not get the audience they deserve. Netflix’s cancelations have also rubbed fans the wrong way, most notably the recent cancelation of One Day at a Time, which was held up next to Netflix’s outrageous payment to keep Friends alive. Netflix’s original library will have to have to support it once certain studios start removing popular titles, however.
