In 1998, an animated Disney feature film adapted the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan for the silver screen. This year, Disney will breathe new life into the classic story with the live-action remake Mulan.
While the 1998 classic will serve as the foundation of the movie, it’s going to shed some of its more goofy elements. Don’t expect a jive-talking dragon sidekick. Instead, the movie will tap into the original Chinese legend to make an action-drama for the ages.

What is Mulan 2020?
A live-action Mulan remake has been in the works since 2010. The project went dormant until 2015, when Disney revamped the production. In 2020, it was announced that Mushu was removed from the story, as it would take more inspiration from the original Chinese ballad based on the legend of Hua Mulan. The premier was held on March 9, 2020, but the theatrical wide-release was delayed because of Covid-19. It will now be released in the US exclusively on Disney+. There’s a cost to watch it now, but f you can wait until December, it will be free to watch there too.
