Directors are generally assumed to be the least animated members of the junket team. In a celebusphere that includes such rubber-faced actors as Jennifer Lawrence and Jim Carrey, it is a rare director who can upstage his meat puppets.

At the Toronto International Film Festival, the director of The Master, the controversial L. Ron Hubbard docu-drama, was as animated as an adolescent in the five minutes before summer break. This GIF, on This Must Be The Place on Tumblr, has received 261 notes of approval for directors who are as emotionally and physically involved with their works as their actors are. Tom Cruise could not be reached for comment.
