The Twitter hashtag #Porn4Prom is no longer just an idea. It’s a movement.
The hashtag was started about three days ago for 18-year-old Mike Stone (@madmike42948), an ordinary high schooler who became an Internet phenomenon and Reddit hero after he used Twitter to land a porn star as a prom date. Adult film actress Megan Piper (@xMeganPiper), 19, was the only woman to say yes and even landed a free trip from Los Angeles to Oakdale, Minn., to attend the dance.
Everything was going according to plan until Stone’s high school found out about his date and banned her from the event.
On Wednesday evening, Stone was interviewed by Minnesota’s KSTP-TV, an ABC affiliate, where he and his mother shared their story.
“If they don’t let us in, I’m going to throw my own party,” Stone said.
Stone’s TV appearance rallied Twitter in his defense. The hashtag #porn4prom was mentioned more than 1,600 times throughout the night and even started trending in Minneapolis. It was enough traction to grab free porn website PornHub’s attention.
“Time to make @madmike42948 #Porn4Prom dreams come true!” tweeted the account Wednesday night. “We’ll fly in @xMeganPiper limo, restaurant, hotel suite ALL on @pornhub.”
The rest of the tweets were from friends, classmates, alumni, and completely random people who wished Stone the best in his prom endeavor.
“March 21st, 2012 will go down in Tartan High School History as #Porn4Prom day,” tweeted Jerry Jubran (@JerriusJubran). “Where @madmike42948 went from senior to star in 24 hours :)”
Tartan High School student Catie Meuwissen even started an online petition to urge the school to allow Stone to bring his date. (So far it has collected only 19 of 1,000 digital signatures.)
“There is NO reason she shouldn’t be aloud to go,” Meuwissen wrote on Facebook. “Mike Stone you should fight it and start a lawsuit for discrimination!!!”
With the prom about two months away, there’s more than enough time for Stone to figure something out and rally his online supporters.
Or maybe he should just start thinking about the film rights to his story.
