In the last week, pop singer Lady Gaga and the organization Global Citizen have raised $35 million for the World Health Organization, and now they’re announcing a special TV event to fight the coronavirus.
The event will be televised as well as streamed live on YouTube, Instagram, and other platforms, according to USA Today.
“We want to highlight the gravity of this historical, unprecedented cultural movement and we want to celebrate and encourage the power of the human spirit,” Gaga said in a video announcing the event.
According to Complex, the list of performers includes Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, and Billie Eilish as well as Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, Kacey Musgraves, Lang Lang, Alanis Morissette, Keith Urban, and Finneas.
Others slated to appear are John Legend, Elton John, David Beckham, Lizzo, Kerry Washington, J Balvin, and Maluma.
USA Today also reports that Idris and Sabrina Elba, who recently tested positive for coronavirus, will be participating.
Lady Gaga told USA Today that this special is not a fundraiser, and viewers should “put their wallets away,” although she does plan to raise more money.
This effort has drawn comparison to other recent celebrity efforts, such as Gal Gadot’s “Imagine” video.
“Celebrities said imagine all the people and Gaga said imagine 35 million dollars,” Twitter user @LeeDawsonPT wrote.
