As news of Tuesday’s apparent shooting in New York City hit social media, singer Josh Groban became an unlikely breaking news reporter.

On Twitter, many first learned of the still-unfolding incident via Groban, who tweeted: “Oh my god I just heard gun shots and ran with my dog. Downtown. Fuck.”

According to BuzzFeed News, police are responding to reports of a shooting in lower Manhattan. The NYPD says one person is in custody and that there is no other active threat.

Three minutes prior to the celebrity’s tweet, Groban shared a peaceful and mundane update from a dog park,a jarring reminder of just how quickly violence can turn someone’s world upside down. “Two things get me through my week. My shrink, and meeting friends at the dog park.”

Twenty-two minutes later, at 3:22pm ET, Groban added a sort of postscript: “I hope everyone’s ok. Was half a block from me, didn’t see it but heard 8-10 quick rounds fired off. Be safe with your kids out there.”
