How to add Disney+ if you already have Hulu or ESPN+

It's not complicated, we promise.

We see you: The streaming media fan who is interested in Disney Plus, but already has Hulu. Or ESPN+. Or both. No matter the combo, you’re not really sure how to go about grabbing Disney Plus in bundle form without paying for Hulu twice—looking like a fool and being openly mocked by all your friends.

Just kidding! But if you want to buy the Disney Plus bundle without accidentally canceling your Hulu account, we can help with that.

So I cancel my Hulu/ESPN+ account first, right?

Don’t do that. Actually, this part is very easy. All you need to do is go to the Disney+ signup site and sign up with the same email address you use for Hulu. If you are an ESPN+ subscriber wanting to get Disney Plus, you’ll want to sign up with the same email you use for ESPN+. The way Disney+ is handling this is by issuing a credit for whatever existing accounts you have so you’ll get the promised bundle price. That means if you have a Hulu account, you get a $5.99 credit and if you have an ESPN+ account you get a $4.99 credit.

Is the Hulu in the Disney+ bundle ad-free?

Sadly, it’s not. But that’s OK because there is a way to fix that if you already subscribe to Hulu. Don’t go looking for a way to tweak it in your Disney+ because you won’t find it there. Instead, log into your Hulu account. If you already have the commercial-free version of Hulu, you don’t need to do a thing. If you have the ad-supported version and you want to upgrade, you can do so in your account on the Hulu website.

There is one hiccup here: If you subscribe to the Disney+ bundle and do not have a pre-existing Hulu account, you won’t be able to upgrade. The fine print on Hulu’s help page states that you will be unable to switch to a different Hulu plan if you sign up via Disney+. That sucks, but it can be easily fixed by signing up for ad-free Hulu first and then signing up for Disney’s bundle after.

TRY DISNEY+

What’s on Disney+? Here’s everything we know:

But what if I don’t want ESPN+?

Our advice would be to just ignore it if you don’t care about sports because a deal is a deal. If you were signed up for the base Disney+ membership and the base Hulu membership, it would cost you a total of $12.98. With the bundle, you get ESPN+ for a penny (normally, it’s $4.99 a month). Maybe you’ll never watch it. But maybe one day you’ll find yourself dating (or married!) to someone who loves it.  You just never know.
