Harvey Weinstein was found guilty on two counts in his New York trial: criminal sexual act in the first degree and rape in the third degree.
The verdict was delivered Monday morning, after jurors on Friday appeared to be deadlocked on two charges. The sexual assault conviction is based on testimony from Mimi Haleyi, and the rape conviction is based on the testimony of Jessica Mann. Weinstein was found not guilty on the charge of predatory sexual assault, based on the testimony of Annabella Sciorra, which could have secured a life sentence for Weinstein. Three other women—Dawn Dunning, Tarale Wulff, and Lauren Young—also testified.
Weinstein’s decades-long history of cover-ups and pay-offs was first detailed in October 2017 by the New York Times‘ Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey, followed by Ronan Farrow for the New Yorker. More than 80 women have accused Weinstein of rape, assault, and misconduct.
He faces up to 25 years, and was ordered straight to jail. He will be sentenced on March 11.
Weinstein now faces charges in Los Angeles.
