YouTube star Eugenia Cooney is logging off to focus on her health

YouTuber Eugenia Cooney is taking a break from social media.

The 24-year-old announced in a Twitter post Sunday that she would be embarking on a hiatus from social media to focus on her health. Fans of her makeup and fashion tutorials have expressed concern for the young creator’s health for weeks. After a brief break from social media led to rumors of her death, Cooney posted an update assuring fans that she was alive but would be stepping away from her online profiles.

She said the matter would be handled “privately” and with her doctor. No other update on her health has been given.

In late January, Cooney dispelled rumors that she had passed away, which were sparked by her increasingly less frequent YouTube uploads. On Jan. 28, she indicated that she would be back up and running soon, before making her announcement of a presumably longer hiatus on Feb. 10. “I’ve been offline for a while and I’m sooo sorry if I worried anyone,” her late January tweet reads. “That was not my intention at all. I’ve just been taken [sic] a much needed break from the negativity and having some positive time offline. I’ll be back soon!”

In a follow-up tweet, she clarified that she was not, in fact, deceased. “I’m so sorry people make up such crazy stuff, but I am alive and definitely not dead,” she wrote.

The announcement from Cooney was met with massive support from her fans and fellow YouTubers. Daniel “Keemstar” Keem, the creator of YouTube channel “DramaAlert,” responded to her announcement with encouragement. “Great job,” he wrote. “So proud of you.”

Shane Dawson also tweeted his support for Cooney. “Sending so much love,” he wrote alongside a retweet of her announcement.

With the outpouring of love and support from all angles, here’s hoping Cooney feels empowered as she works to get better.
