Once hailed by Jerry Wexler as the “greatest of all modern blues singers,” Etta James died on Friday after a long struggle with leukemia. She was 73.

The winner of six Grammy Awards, James was best known for her iconic hits as “At Last,” “Tell Mama,” and “All I Could Do Was Cry.” She was inducted Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.

News of James’ death has been a worldwide trending topic over the last three hours, with more than 150,000 people paying their respects, some in the form of the hashtags #AtLast and #DearEtta.

“Etta James let me sing ‘you can leave your hat on’ by randy newman with her on my talk show,” tweeted actress Roseanne Barr. “[I]t was a dream come true-she was so sweet.”
