Before Saturday Night Live kicked off with an impressive cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” and a poignant monologue, the chances of seeing host Dave Chappelle bring back any of his iconic characters from the Chappelle Show seemed remote.

He even mentioned during a brief lead-in to the sketch below that he hadn’t planned on bringing any of those characters back to life. But he also said that after watching a recent episode of the The Walking Dead, he was so distraught that he had to make his own homage. So, he mashed up The Walking Dead with a few of his best-known Chappelle Show characters, including Tyrone Biggums, Lil Jon, Silky Johnson, and Clayton Bigsby.

This was the result.

Hopefully getting to play all of his old characters for the first time since his show went off the air in 2006 provided a little bit of closure for Chappelle after what apparently was a crushing episode of his favorite zombie show.
