BoJack Horseman co-star Aaron Paul said in a recent tweet that Netflix canceled the critically acclaimed animated series.
The show stars Will Arnett voicing the has-been anthropomorphic horse, and has been lauded for its commentary on racism, sexism, depression, trauma, and addiction. When news broke on Friday that BoJack Horseman would conclude following a two-part sixth season, it was implied that show creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg had planned for the series to end after six seasons.
Paul, who portrays slacker Todd Chavez, responded to a fan’s tweet concerning the show’s demise. The Breaking Bad actor says it was Netflix that put the kibosh on the series, but also said the crew “had a wonderful time making Bojack. Couldn’t be more proud.”
“Fell in love with these characters just like everyone else did but sadly Netflix thought it was time to close the curtains and so here we are,” he continued. “They gave us a home for 6 beautiful years. Nothing we could do about it.”

The cancelation would not be an unfamiliar move for Netflix. The streamer recently axed supernatural mystery drama The OA after two seasons and animated comedy Tuca & Bertie—which was co-created by BoJack‘s Bob-Waksberg and Lisa Hanawalt—after a single season.
The Daily Dot has reached out to Netflix for comment. Neither Bob-Waksberg nor the show’s co-production companies, Tornante Television and ShadowMachine, have commented on Paul’s tweets.
Bojack Horseman‘s sixth and final season kicks off Oct. 25 on Netflix, and the second part will drop on Jan. 31.
