In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Billie Eilish revealed that she and Drake are texting buddies—and some people are finding that pretty weird.
The 17-year-old “Bad Guy” singer answered a question about what famous people are in her phone, listing off quite a few before landing on one of the most famous rappers of our time.
“Drake is like, the nicest dude I’ve ever spoken to,” she says. “I mean, I’ve only like, texted him, but he’s so nice. He does not need to be nice, you know what I mean? He’s at a level in his life where he doesn’t need to be nice, but he is.”
Q: who’s the most famous person in your phone— dave (@havedendrix) November 27, 2019
bruh first millie bobbie brown and now 17 year old billie eilish what the hell is drake up to pic.twitter.com/YSArxbY96R
While Eilish may have been impressed with her text interactions with Drake, some fans were quick to question the relationship between the teen and the former Degrassi star.
“Why is Drake texting 17 year old Billie Eilish? Are we going to pretend there’s not a pattern here of Drake texting underage girls that don’t have shit to [do] with rap?” activist Calvin Benson tweeted.
Why is Drake texting 17 year old Billie Ellish? Are we going to pretend there’s not a pattern here of Drake texting underage girls that don’t have shit to with rap? Okay.— Calvin (@LegitSelfMade) November 26, 2019
Me watching the billie eilish vanity fair interview, hearing her say drake is the nicest guy ever and that he texts her. pic.twitter.com/kpv7V6DPKh— kristen🍍 (@ksiebs_5204) November 26, 2019
is it bad that i’m watching a billie eilish interview and she’s like “drake is like the nicest dude i’ve spoken to” and the fuckin sirens started going off in my brain lol— hey all, andrew here (@bearfaceV1) November 25, 2019

bruh why am i just hearing about drake texting billie eilish? why is a whole 33 year old grown man texting a 17 year old girl?— mj (@eemjaynenk) November 27, 2019
Drake previously came under fire last year for his friendship with then 14-year-old Stranger Things star, Millie Bobby Brown, who told reporters he often texted her with advice on dating and boys.
“Does anyone else think it’s strange that Drake just has Billie Eilish and Millie Bobby Brown’s numbers?” one Twitter user asked.
Does anyone else think it’s strange that Drake just has Billie Eilish and Millie Bobby Brown’s numbers? It’s definitely possible he’s just being a role model and it has to do with marketing but why’s a 32 year old man texting girls under the age of 17?— Sweet and Sour Tofu (@morriah_l) November 25, 2019

Billie eilish just did her 3rd year in a row interview thing with vanity fair and I just wanna say @drake why the fuck are you always texting with teenage girls? HELLO?— 𝔞𝔲𝔰 ⚔️ (@ausssv) November 25, 2019
While an adult talking to a teenager in and of itself isn’t necessarily a creep factor, Drake’s past history of dating women who are a lot younger than him and sometimes barely legal has given fans pause.
“He was dating an 18 year old he knew for years,” someone pointed out, which could have referred to several different rumored paramours of the rapper.
people still don’t think drake is a weirdo when two underage celebrities (millie bobby brown & billie eilish) have now said casually in interviews that they actively text his 33 year old ass and he was dating an 18 year old he knew for years, please get this creep out of here— kryn (@midsmmers) November 29, 2019
You say “unlikely friendship”, I say “latest example of predatory behaviour.” pic.twitter.com/lyYIbl8ZHR— Mic Wright (@brokenbottleboy) November 28, 2019
drake is 33 and was texting a 14 year old millie Bobby brown and now he's texting a 17 year old billie ellish and he's been interested in Kylie jenner since 'forever' and she JUST turned 22 like this guy is a CREEP CREEP and people just give him a pass WHY pic.twitter.com/jwPUvCdvkz— indie (@INDIEWASHERE) November 27, 2019
aside from drake grooming millie bobby brown, dating kylie and having billie's number, these are lyrics from drake's song jaded from scorpion.....— muhamad (@arabqueer) November 27, 2019
at this point, you people DON'T WANNA ADMIT that he's a full blown PEDOPHILE. pic.twitter.com/0dCPixMSST
Even though Eilish had only positive things to say about Drake and their text convos, people online were also quick to point out that doesn’t necessarily mean everything is A-OK with his behavior.
“I loved it when I was 17 and adult men wanted to know me,” writer Marianne Eloise tweeted. “It’s only in hindsight that I found it weird, and it’s really on adults to interrogate what ‘being nice’ actually means here.”
i don't blame billie eilish one bit for thinking it's cool that drake wants to be her friend. i loved it when i was 17 and adult men wanted to know me. it's only in hindsight that i found it weird, and it's really on adults to interrogate what "being nice" actually means here pic.twitter.com/tmXSz4MrjQ— marianne eloise (@marianne_eloise) November 27, 2019
reminder that it doesnt matter if billie or millie or whomever he grooms next is okay with it and doesnt find it weird. thats the fuckin point, theyre young & drake is using his influence and fame to get away with something that would be a huge red flag if he werent famous— max (@goregremlin) November 27, 2019
In regards to Billie, just bc billie is not and may not ever have a *concerning* relationship with drake doesn’t mean it isn’t exposing a pattern and infatuation he clearly has with teenage girls. Just bc she might not ever be a victim doesn’t mean someone else *might* not be 🤷🏼♀️— faye (@fayekinley) November 26, 2019
