Earlier this week, Justin Bieber, who is by far the most famous person yet to emerge from YouTube, hit 2 billion views this week on his Vevo channel. The milestone came just as speculation surfaced that the teen sensation had fathered a child.
As Time noted, that is a quarter of the world’s population, and Justin Bieber’s YouTube channel gets an average of 93 million views a month, according to Fame Count.
To compare, Lady Gaga has collected 1.8 billion views on her channel, and the most subscribed to YouTuber, Ray William Johnson, has 1.5 billion views.
Earlier this year, the Guardian published an article proclaiming Bieber more influential online than President Obama or the Dalai Lama. Bieber’s Facebook page has received more than 37 million Likes. He also has more than 14 million followers on Twitter and is regularly a trending topic on the micro-blogging site. (Barack Obama’s Facebook page has 23 million Likes, while his Twitter account is followed by 10 million users.)
Bieber, aged 17, began his career in 2007, when his mom uploaded videos of him singing onto YouTube. In 2008, talent manager Scooter Braun came across a Bieber video, and the rest, as they say, is history—one easily watched and traced online.
