Who drew the dicks? It’s the question at the heart of American Vandal, Netflix’s true-crime mockumentary about high school students and random acts of phallic vandalism.

But the series isn’t just about dicks. It explores the relationship between teens, the role of social media in untangling something like this, and the hierarchy of high school. There are so many in-jokes and perfect details that the world of American Vandal becomes real and you forget you’re watching a fake true-crime doc.

American Vandal season 2 plot

In the teaser, a voiceover, which sounds vaguely like season 1’s narrator Peter Maldonado, asks if someone can be “born above the law.” We see yearbook photos of students who appear to go to a different high school than in season 1. It’s possible that season 2 will focus on another student accused of a crime.

On Aug. 21, Netflix released the official season 2 trailer, which does indeed tease a new crime at a new school. Season 1’s documentarians Peter Maldonado and Sam Ecklund reappear at private high school St. Bernadine, where someone known as the Turd Burglar has caused a literal shitstorm. Student Kevin McClain has been expelled for contaminating the school’s lemonade, but did he really do it?

“What if the motive is just, poop is funny?” Peter asks.
