The World Trade Center BASE jumpers released a new video Monday showing what happened in those final minutes before they jumped. It’s the last of three videos promised by the jumpers.
Marko Markovich, Andrew Rossig, and James Brady originally jumped off 1 World Trade Center on Sept. 30 and caused a months-long investigation after they were spotted landing by a Goldman Sachs security guard. Markovich, Rossig, and Brady were arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, burglary, and BASE jumping; Kyle Hartwell, who kept watch, was also charged.
The camera was strapped to Markovich’s head, and the other jumpers are heard encouraging him while he’s having a moment of panic.
“This is some fucking shit right here,” he said as the others try to convince him that he can make the jump.
The BASE jumpers have released the videos in hope that it “can be used for some good.” This, along with a New Jersey teen’s climb to the top of the tower, showed some gaps in security at 1 WTC. Two CNN reporters tried to sneak onto the site for a report, but they were arrested.
“There’s no question over what happened that night so there’s no reason to hide behind it,” Markovich’s lawyer Timothy Parlatore said.
The three jumpers are due in court today. Any money raised from the videos will go to 9/11 victims, according to Parlatore.
