Watching the C-SPAN feed of the Senate healthcare fight early Friday morning felt similar to viewing the end of a close football game.
It featured the twists and turns of an important sporting event as Republicans tried a last-minute Hail Mary to get John McCain to change his “no” vote to a “yes” while reporters watching the action dissected every little facial tic and hand movement in order to give clarity to those who were following along on Twitter.
Healthcare, of course, is slightly more important than a football game. Luckily, Oliver Willis, a writer for the liberal website Share Blue, gave us the best of both worlds on Friday: He took still shots from C-SPAN and pretended like he was breaking down football film, like a TV color analyst using a telestrator to make his points.

No matter what you think about the outcome of the Republican’s failed attempt to overturn Obamacare, Willis gave us something to laugh at and, maybe, something to learn from. Perhaps if the Republicans had simply spent more time in the film room in preparation for the Senate showdown, they would have prevailed against the scrappy Democratic underdogs.
