The No Man’s Sky subreddit is a dumpster fire

This game can’t catch a break.

Has anything gone according to plan for No Man’s Sky?

The highly anticipated space exploration game was met with tepid-at-best reviews upon its release in August, and since then it has been relentlessly skewered for failing to meet expectations. First, the disappointment led many players to seek full refunds for the title, citing false advertising on the part of developer Hello Games. (The would-be indie darling is now under investigation for the same issue.)

Then, the game’s official Twitter account ghosted in the face of the relentless barrage of criticism. Hello Games founder Sean Murray describes himself as “the Susan Boyle of videogames” in his Twitter bio.

So it’s just the icing on the cake that the Reddit community surrounding No Man’s Sky would be similarly struggling with its identity.

Moderator r0ugew0lf deleted the r/NoMansSkyTheGame subreddit boasting 150,000-plus subscribers early Wednesday, saying in an announcement post that the community had “become a hate filled wastehole of no actual discussion” and lamenting a lack of moderator support, according to Eurogamer. An alternative subreddit, r/no_mans_sky sprang up in its wake, but then r0ugew0lf passed administrative control over to Sporkicide, who reopened the original subreddit and explained that his or her predecessor is “taking a break.”

Both communities remain live as of this writing, but the new one claims the old is “in full censorship mode” and the old one seeks to cobble together a new moderator team.

Stay tuned, as we expect all the dust has not yet settled on this particular planet.
