Hold that selfie! The Instagram apocalypse has arrived. As of this weekend, it looks like Kim Kardashian has stolen Beyoncé’s crown and replaced her as the most followed person on the photo-sharing service.

While the two both have just over 44 million followers, Kim has eked out slightly more and taken a slim lead, with 44.2 million followers compared to Beyoncé’s 44.1 million.

Taking down Beyoncé is no small feat. Beyoncé has a long history as the reigning queen of Instagram. Her feed is a carefully curated exhibit of her life and her loves.

Beyoncé’s feed, much like Queen Bey herself, is pretty much immaculate.

So how did Kim do it? How did she receive a sudden bump in followers and unseat Bey? Does she owe victory to mastering the art of the selfie, perfecting an enchantingly vacant stare time and time again?

Whatever the case, we are certain this momentous shift will have a long-term effects on Instagram as we know it. Use your filters, tilt-shift, and captions wisely! The end is most definitely nigh.
