‘Texts From Your Existentialist’ is the perfect solution to your Instagram ennui

If scrolling through social media has ever sent you into an existentialist tailspin, you’re not alone. Let’s face it—we’ve all felt the awful twinge of FOMO. April Eileen Henry, a Los Angeles artist and poet, has a unique approach to coping with it: embracing that void.

Henry’s Instagram account, Texts From Your Existentialist, contains zero selfies and nary a party. Instead, the account provides a steady stream of art and text mashups, with Henry pairing masterpieces from the worlds of film and art with text bubbles of eloquent melancholy.

The results are witty as hell.

Henry describes the origins of the project on her website:

“This project began when April turned to art as a visual aid while she wrote poetry about her woes. Her aim is to bring more messages that speak to the pity party line and the seldom spoken sadnesses of life, rather than the alienating positive messages that pervade the internet today.”

Her images run the existentialist gamut, from Hollywood’s leading ladies strutting their sadness…
