Despite the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations for social distancing and social isolation, many young people are still going out to high-traffic locations such as bars, clubs, and movie theaters.

Now, celebrities are filming PSAs, asking people to stay indoors in order to keep the virus from spreading. While most are approaching the issue delicately, Hilary Duff’s most recent Instagram story about the coronavirus is a brusque wake-up call for millennials.

According to the Daily Mail, Duff shared a quick call to action—or rather, inaction—on her Instagram story, asking her followers to stop going out.

‘To all you young millennial a**holes that keep going out partying: go home,” Duff said. “Stop killing old people please.”

Across social media platforms, fans are either excited or upset with her message.

“The way Hilary duff went from casually answering her own rhetorical questions to telling ‘asshole millennials’ to ‘stop killing old people’ is the plot twist I was not expecting,” Twitter user @urdadssidepiece wrote about her coronavirus plea.

The upset reactions stem from the idea that millennials are no longer of “partying age.”

“I don’t think it’s millennials @HilaryDuff. We’re old now,” Twitter user @YasmineMento wrote. “Nearing middle age… we have kids and partners and dogs and student loans.”

Some are truly upset with Duff.

“Yeah blame millennials,” Twitter user @yonickbangs wrote. “Meanwhile, I’ve spent the last week begging my 51-year-old mother w/ diabetes not to go to the store, while I’ve been inside anxiously twiddling my thumbs. F*ck you @HilaryDuff, use your platform to spread useful information or shut tf up.”

This comes two days after Duff’s post about the relatively low coronavirus testing in the U.S. in comparison to other countries such as South Korea.
