Shoppers caught in the wild wearing bags, personal hygiene pads as masks

People are getting hilariously creative with their DIY masks.

The Center for Disease Control has finally begun recommending that Americans wear some form of protective covering over their faces to combat the spread of coronavirus. But with mask supplies running low and now generally being reserved for health care workers and people who can pay extraordinary amounts of money for personal use, folks are turning to more creative solutions to keep their faces covered.

A lot of the time, that looks like sewing your own mask or even wrapping something a normal clothing item like a bandana or scarf around your face.

But to some people, something so simple just doesn’t seem to cut it.

Shoppers have been caught out in the wild wearing everything, from underwear to plastic bags over their faces, turning this pseudo-apocalyptic aesthetic into something far different than Hollywood ever could have anticipated.

And some are even turning the whole thing into a game, seeking out the strangest masks humans have come up with in these unprecedented times.

Obviously, there’s something that feels more than a little off about making fun of people scrounging up whatever items they can find to try to feel safe in the middle of a worldwide health crisis, but at the same time, it’s obvious some folks are trying to have a little bit of fun where they can.

And when most of us are constantly oscillating between complete boredom and sheer panic, let’s have fun where we can (safely, at least six feet apart, and only when absolutely necessary).
