Inevitable but lovely nonetheless, Anne Romney has joined Twitter.

Well, it’s possible it’s not actually the wife of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, given that her name is Ann and Ann has an account. It may in fact, be… fake. But given the state of political discourse in the country, it’s hard to tell.

The Romney parody began by addressing an issue most politicians have not had the courage to confront.

“I promise to end all entitlements for smug Crabtree & Evelyn salesgirls who don’t gift wrap Nantucket Briar bath gels properly.”

She continued with another powerful point. .

“Please join with me this November in fighting to bring Smith & Hawken back. We’ve lived too many dark days.”

This Romney seems to be focusing on America’s vibrant but besieged retail sector in much the same way the current First Lady is focusing on childhood obesity and nutrition.

“There’s something awfully ethnic about Lands’ End these days.”

The account sprung up like a post-rainstorm mushroom in the wake of Mrs. Romney’s speech at the Republican National Convention Tuesday evening. The bulk of the dozen and a half tweets were written late last night, perhaps under the mellowing influence of a nice glass of White Zinfandel. The rest have come out in a scatter this morning.

The account currently has about 300 followers. Clearly no one can accuse this Romney of buying Twitter followers.

Should this Twitter account prove to not be a legitimate account for the would-be future First Lady, it would not be the first time such a stunt was perpetuated on the trusting online public. In fact, it wouldn’t even be the first time such a falsehood were perpetrated using the Romney family.

Ms. Romney1 did not respond by press time to our request for an in-depth interview on how Bergdorf has declined to a point where Chico’s shoppers feel comfortable stinking up the place.

Meanwhile, Ann D. Romney spiked at over 6,000 Twitter mentions per minute after her appearance at the convention, according to Twitter’s blog.
