This year, I’m writing all my resolutions in emoji

Writing resolutions is so 2015. Why not use emoji instead?

Writing New Year’s resolutions is hard. Actually following through on them is even harder.

With each note I scribble, pouring my hopes and dreams into a notebook I’ll Instagram once and probably immediately forget about, the pressure of achieving goals only written because the end of the year is upon us is somewhat uncomfortable. Is it only because the year is ending that I want to go camping more? Because if it were actually an attainable desire, I wouldn’t wait until the ball dropped and the calendar changed to consider doing it.

More philosophical difficulties aside, though, there’s the trouble of putting some goals into words. Maybe 2016 is the year I give up on all that. Because why use proper vocabulary and punctuation when I have graphics that say it well enough for me?

To help simplify resolutions and goals, I’ve decided to take an illustrative approach—using emoji to document my wishes in a casual manner instead of one that’s as intimidating as writing an essay and feeling required to hold myself accountable.

Emoji don’t judge you if you’ve already failed in January.

2016 will be the year I sleep more.

Inbox Zero will no longer be a dream.

Girl, let’s find inner peace.

Let’s you and me go outside more.

I need to spend more time dancing.
