A mysterious article on a site like ours is just one way the consumer frenzy over new technology can reach a fever pitch, and Bay Area tech initiative One City parodies that madness in a new video touting the mysterious “MyBook.”
The video shows the buzz spiraling out of control after Biz Stone offhandedly mentions “MyBook” during an interview, setting off a hype wave with various San Francisco notables getting in on the act, from Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana to Mayor Ed Lee, and, of course MC Hammer. The video was created by Portal A, the company behind the YouTube Rewind videos among other buzzy content.
But before you start camping out by your nearest Apple Store, you might want to watch the clip first.
So what is the MyBook? It’s an actual, physical book, of course. One City partners tech companies in the San Francisco area with deserving schools to support them with books and mentorship, becoming a part of the school’s community.
“More than 20 tech companies have already joined One City’s first initiative, Circle The Schools. This is just the beginning,” said sf.citi founder Ron Conway in a press release. “One City will harness this same passion to find solutions to the biggest problems facing San Francisco. Circle the Schools connects tech companies with our public schools to give our students the tools and resources they need to succeed one school at a time. One City is the new home for this amazing program, and so many other projects like it.”
Here’s hoping One City can make education as hyped up as an iPhone 6.
