Recently, I uploaded this photo to Instagram:

No, that is not a doctor. Yes, it is a donkey. Yes, that post is riddled with typos and astericks trying to clarify them. And no, at the time I couldn’t easily fix without deleting and reuploading and filtering and who even has the time? Between autocorrect and my abnormally large thumbs, this is an all-too-common occurrence. Thus, the comments section below is full of confusion and explanations.

But no longer: Instagram has just announced caption editing.

When you share a moment to Instagram, a typo shouldn’t get in the way. This has been one of the top requests that we’ve heard from the community, and we’re excited to finally bring it to you today. You’ll find a new ‘Edit’ option in the menu beneath your image. Tap it to edit your caption.

Instagram says it’s also updated discovery, so the icon is different (it’ll now be a magnifying glass, which makes a lot more sense), and that you’ll be able to toggle between people and photos. Which is all well and good, but really I know we’re all just excited not to look like mistake-prone, drunken idiots.

Instagram is all about appearance and making things more beautiful than they actually are, and now captions will reflect that. We like our falsified perfection complete; I don’t need any astericks marring my beautiful Walden-filtered life, thanks.
