In the confusion following a natural disaster or tragic terror attack, it can be difficult to verify the safety of loved ones. Facebook‘s built-in Safety Check feature is one of the best digital tools for giving you peace of mind, and in the wake of the terrorist acts in Brussels on Tuesday, you can check in on your Facebook contacts and verify your own wellbeing via the easy-to-use social feature.

Facebook

The Safety Check page for the Brussels explosions is very straightforward in its function: If you are in the area and want to verify your safety, just click the “Yes, let my friends know” link to check in. If you’re searching for news on friends or family members you know who are near the attacks, you can request a status update on them via the list on the page.

You can also toggle notifications about new safe check-ins from people on your friends list, get the emergency services contact number for the area of the attacks, and learn a bit more about the incident itself.
