The iPhone-haters of the world were in heaven when reports began surfacing late last year that the newly released iPhone 6 Plus was unexpectedly bending in users’ pockets. Today, iPhone devotees get a small bit of revenge thanks to the news that Samsung’s new flagship phone, the Galaxy S6 Edge, is not only just as bendable, but actually more fragile than its iPhone counterpart. Get ready for #Bendgate round two.
Using its own “Bend Bot” testing tool, SquareTrade put the iPhone 6 Plus, Galaxy S6 Edge, and HTC One M9 through the exact same torture test. The results showed that the iPhone 6 Plus bent under 110 pounds of pressure, and eventually broke under the force of 179 pounds.
The HTC One M9 lasted a bit longer before bending, withstanding 120 pounds of pressure before bending and breaking at the same time, thanks to a power button which would no longer function.
Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Edge didn’t fare nearly as well as HTC’s latest smartphone, bending at the same 110 pounds of force that doomed the iPhone 6 Plus. However, unlike the iPhone 6 Plus, the pressure of 110 pounds actually shattered the screen of the S6 Edge instantly, and the phone eventually broke at 149 pounds of force. This makes it not only just as bendable as the iPhone 6 Plus, but more likely to leave you with a pocket full of glass shards as well.
So if you were a Samsung fan laughing at the iPhone crowd late last year, it seems karma may have finally caught up with you—or, at least, with Samsung.
