It’s about 5,000 miles as the crow flies from Arian Foster’s hometown of Albuqueure, N.M. to London, but it didn’t stop the Houston Texans running back from publicly trying his hand at a British accent.
For reasons known only to the former University of Tennessee star, he went all cockney (or at least tried to) in his weekly Q&A with reporters. Foster fared fairly well, going off script a few times, one of which was when he inserted the word “mate” which is more Crocodile Dundee than Didier Drogba.
Topics in his weekly tete-a-tete with reporters ranged from his current lead in Pro Bowl voting as well as his fondness for former USC and Oakland Raider great, Marcus Allen. Foster moved to Southern California for part of his high school career after his parents divorced and was a highly regarded prospect in the San Diego area.
Foster has a reputation for being a bit offbeat and was once called “the most interesting man in the NFL” by a major sports publication. He has tried his hand at being a vegan and has been known to quote Shakespeare at the drop of a hat. Come to think of it, that’s probably where he got his British accent.
