In the latest edition of people freaking out about Beyoncé’s politically charged Super Bowl halftime performance, a Tennessee sheriff claims the show is responsible for a drive-by shooting that took place in front of his home.
“With everything that’s happened since the Super Bowl, with law enforcement as a whole, I think we’ve lost five to seven officers—five deputy sheriffs,” Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold said in a press conference. “That’s what I’m thinking. Here’s another target on law enforcement.”
He followed by singling out Beyoncé’s “Formation” music video—the singer’s latest single that’s been dubbed a black power anthem.
“Well, you know, Beyoncé’s video and how that’s kind of led over into other things about law enforcement,” Arnold said.
As a result of the continuous slew of stories reporting the deaths of unarmed, African-American people by police, Arnold feels law enforcement is being threatened and blamed.
Arnold isn’t the only person to have called out Beyoncé on stirring things up. Conservative pundits and politicians have accused her of calling out police officers.
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani called Beyoncé’s performance “outrageous,” and political commentator Rush Limbaugh labeled it as “the cultural and political decay and the social rot that is befalling our country.”
But even though the queen probably has the power to make anything happen, she almost surely doesn’t have her sights set on taking down small-town police.
