The FBI is expected to announce that North Korea is directly responsible for a cyberattack on Sony Pictures that has escalated to terroristic threats, according to CNN justice reporter Evan Perez.

The hackers have repeatedly criticized The Interview, a movie in which Americans, played by Seth Rogan and James Franco, kill North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Earlier today, Sony decided to drop the Christmas day release of the film after multiple American theater chains refused to screen the film in light of the terrorist threats.

Perez, citing unnamed sources at the Department of Justice, said the Sony hack has received massive attention from both the U.S. intelligence and law enforcement communities.

The details of the FBI’s announcement including evidence and international implications have yet to be revealed.
