Sen. Mitch McConnell is the newly crowned Republican majority leader of the United States Senate, and he is also, apparently, a cat.
Oklahoma City artist Anthony Pego is reimagining politicians as cats during the month of February on his website, Boo Science. He began with Oklahoma political figures, and then moved onto senators from other states, like McConnell of Kentucky.
“I’m choosing my subjects by watching the ‘new all’ feed on Reddit, scouring for politicians in the news and listening to the people around me for absurd stories local or national political news,” Pego told the Daily Dot in an email. “It’s not hard; I’m essentially translating local rag articles from around the country into coloring-book-style portrayals of famous people as cats. That keeps me learning on several levels, which keeps the creative juices flowing. A win win, I think.”
Pego doesn’t call his feline iteration of the Republican leader “Mitch McConnell.” No—It’s Mitch McColombia, who Pego described to MSNBC as as a cat who “spends his free time running a cocaine based drug cartel out of a printer paper box lid”—a storyline based on accusations against McConnell’s family.
Pego has also tackled a few New York political figures, like Gov. Andrew Cuomo (alias: extra kitty Gov. Andrew Cuomew), state senator Tony Avella (alias: Tummies Avela) and Sens. Chuck Schumer (D) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D) as “Lucky Schumer” and “Purrsten Gillibrand,” respectively.

“Hopefully, he’s ready to let me make his family Christmas card for 2015; it’s on the House,” Pego said. Switch that to Hannukah, and Schumer will surely be down.
So what can we expect next from Pego?
“I can’t decide if I’ll do celebrities as cats or fish next,” he said. “I’m leaning towards fish. Mostly because of the plastic surgery trend in recent decades, but partially because of how schools [of fish] work … when a predator is present.
“There’s definitely more to come in the animal and human kingdoms.”
