Voltron‘s second season arrives later this year, and its new trailer hints at a more epic direction for the series.

The Netflix show is a reboot of the classic 1980s Voltron cartoons, with slick new animation and a more coherent plot than the original. As a kids’ show, the first season was fairly lighthearted, but this trailer points toward a more serious tone.

When we interviewed the Voltron showrunners last week, they spoke about expanding the Voltron universe in season 2, introducing new aliens and giving a broader sense of scope to the war with the Galra. After seeing the alien landscapes and beautifully animated space scenes in this trailer, we’re excited to see how that pans out.
