Some might say there are already too many comic book shows on TV, but here’s one we can definitely get excited about. iZombie is about a crime-fighting zombie girl, and the showrunner is none other than Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas.

iZombie looks like it’s going to have the morbid humor of shows like Pushing Daisies and Dead Like Me. The main character, Liv, is a medical resident who gets turned into a zombie and has to find a way to adapt to the undead lifestyle without anyone finding out her secret. This involves working at a morgue where she can find a fresh supply of human brains to eat, although as this trailer suggests, those brains have some unexpected side-effects.

Comparisons with Veronica Mars are unavoidable. Yes, it’s a darkly funny crime show with a petite blonde heroine who fights crime on the sly. But the whole “psychic, brain-eating zombie” thing is definitely enough to set this show apart.

The series will premiere in March, but in the meantime you can always check out the original comic book, DC’s iZOMBIE. There’s no need to be too concerned about spoilers, because it looks like Rob Thomas has made some pretty significant changes, including the name and profession of the main character.
